On the Faro‘s Próximo public transport service, contactless payments are available onboard all buses and ticket offices, since 1st September.
Passengers just need to tap their contactless bank card, phones, or smartwatches to purchase the tickets, and then enjoy the tour.
According to the spokesperson, this system is expected to reduce the use of paper and plastic and also the number of long lines of travelers at the ticket offices.
This platform, created by a Portuguese startup, is the result of a partnership between Mastercard and the Barraqueiro Group.
