Vila do Bispo-featured
With 60% of its area included in the Natural Park of Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, the municipality of Vila do Bispo is one of the few places in the Algarve region where wild nature, combined with a rich historical and cultural heritage, remains intact.

Vila do Bispo is located at the westernmost tip of the region, and with unique conditions and rare beauties that invite a prolonged visit, it presents two distinct realities: the western coast – little indented, and where small freshwater courses flow – and the southern coast, more indented as a result of erosion offers a magnificent view of bays.

This mythical atmosphere surrounds Sagres and Cabo de São Vicente (Cape St. Vincent), places that have been dedicated to the gods for thousands of years.

From its people to its varied cuisine and paradisiacal beaches, Vila do Bispo offers the most varied types of tourism and sports, enabling a healthy and harmonious contact with Nature, in the truest sense of the word. Sun, sea, and a vast historical and cultural heritage make up the perfect combination for those who want to feel the mysticism of the past and the dynamics of the present.

Beaches by Vila do Bispo

The small town of Sagres is surrounded by wonderful and often deserted beaches, although the sea here is colder and more dangerous than on the south Algarve coast. This is the case of the beaches of Telheiro, Ponta Ruiva, Beliche, Tonel (great for surfers) and Martinhal, where there is a water sports school for water skiing, surfing and windsurfing. The beaches in the area, such as Castelejo, Barriga and Cordama, have not been spoiled by tourism and all feature fine sand and rocks at the bottom of steep cliffs.
